Our Camp Pet

El Maso has a new camp pet. It seems this snake has decided to take refuge under a water tank right in front of the camp house. I believe it may be a blue indigo but will have to research some info on it. Thanks to Pat Townsend Sr. for catching the threatened animal on film. A  blue indigo, and actually a rather large one, would help keep the  rattlesnake numbers in check. Click on the photos for a closer look.

  1. Yes, it’s a Texas indigo snake. Nice photos and a good pet to have around. Of course, it will eat a lot more than rattlesnakes…bird eggs, frogs, etc.

Pat & I saw this snake grandpa one day as we entered the ranch it was about 6 inches around and at least six feet long, and did not like to stand still and be photo. I saw several on the King ranch when I was in college at Texas A & I, they get very large. I was told they had them shipped in.
