A guy in North Dakota shot this elk and used a timer to take a picture…..he freaked out when he checked out the picture later…..is this real?

Here is a nice old buck shot on a wonderfully managed deer lease in deep South Texas. The info came from my brother Pat…Richard Drawe took this buck by bow on Las Islas Ranch on 12-06-11. Definitely old enough (aged at 7.5) and scored 152+. 

My 14 pt  has returned and has been around for about 5 days.  I hope that he stays around thru the weekend.  Plus boy have the hogs been fruitful and multiplied.  I will have to do some hog control.   Check out the doe showing her dominance over a button buck. 

Headed South for opening weekend and managed to claim a few birds that made it to the grill. Saw plenty of game at El Maso including this Blue Indigo Snake. The stocked tank not only made for some fun fishing but excellent dove bait. They were thirsty to say the least. I will tell you the main fun was with family however. Luke and I hung out with the rest of the Townsend Clan and had a great time. I hope to make it down again soon.

It’s not all bad news this year, despite the drought. By John Jefferson  You know conditions are bad when this is the best thing you can say about wildlife habitat: The vegetation has died back enough so that game birds can find previously hidden seed on the ground.  And that’s seed from seasons past. There has been relatively little seed production throughout Texas this year since it quit raining in September 2010. On top of that, a lot of what was on the ground from years past practically turned to popcorn as

wildfires raged over it, followed by a stream of 100-plus-degree temperatures.  But hunting seasons are upon us, and there will be adequate game for hunters. Someone once wrote that the amount of available game Texans consider “just average” can seem like a bumper crop to those less fortunate living in the other 49 states. Read the article here.
